Pontedeume
Spain
Founded in 1270 by royal charter of Alfonso X, Pontedeume is a small Galician town on the Eume estuary in northwestern Spain where the river meets the Atlantic. Its well-preserved historic centre retains arcaded streets, wooden-balconied houses, glass galleries, and public fountains. The town sits on the English Way route of the Camino de Santiago and serves as a gateway to the Fragas del Eume natural park. The Eume River region was declared a Historic Site and Picturesque Place in 1971.
