Poza Rica
Poza Rica de Hidalgo · Mexico
A modern industrial city in northern Veracruz, Poza Rica sits within easy reach of several Gulf coast beaches — Tecolutla, Tuxpan, and Cazones among them — and the UNESCO World Heritage Site of El Tajín, a pre-Columbian archaeological zone roughly 15 kilometres away. Founded officially in 1951, the city grew around the oil industry and retains a contemporary character, with none of the colonial-era architecture common elsewhere in Mexico. It serves as a regional hub for northern Veracruz and a practical base for the surrounding coast and ruins.
