Kosovo's capital is a large, energetic city with an exceptionally dense café and restaurant scene spread across a centre where Ottoman-era mosques and churches sit alongside communist-era architecture and newer construction. First recorded in 1342, Pristina grew into a significant mining and trading hub during the Ottoman period and today serves as Kosovo's political, economic, and transport centre. The city is set to host the 2030 Mediterranean Games, and the wider region holds a UNESCO World Heritage site.
