Protaras

This beach resort on Cyprus's eastern coastline with a walkable centre dense with restaurants and bars, Protaras sits within the municipality of Paralimni and occupies the site of the ancient city-state of Leukolla, whose compact harbour sheltered Demetrius the Besieger in 306 BC as he awaited — and defeated — the forces of Ptolemy. The area is also known historically as "the land of windmills," and scenic viewpoints extend into the surrounding landscape.
