Putre
Chile
High in the Andes at an elevation that demands acclimatisation, this little Aymara-rooted village in northern Chile sits on the edge of Lauca National Park and serves as the main gateway for visitors heading into the park or onward to Bolivia via the CH-11 route. The Taapaca volcanic complex rises behind the village, and the wider commune takes in Lago Chungará and the Nevados de Payachata. A historic church stands in the village centre.
