Racoș, a village on the banks of the Olt River in Transylvania's Brașov County, is home to a striking set of basalt columns formed by the region's oldest volcano, alongside an Emerald Lake and two protected nature reserves. The ruins of a Dacian fortress and the Sükösd-Bethlen Castle, first attested in 1636, add historical depth, and the wider region is ringed by UNESCO World Heritage sites. Train connections link the village to both Bucharest and the Hungarian border.
