Rubio
Venezuela
Founded in 1794 by Gervasio Rubio, this Andean city in Venezuela's Táchira state sits among rivers and waterfalls on its outskirts and is known as "Ciudad Pontálida" — the City of Bridges — for the many bridges crossing its waterways, particularly in the older quarters. Coffee production and cross-border trade with Colombia have long shaped its economy, and the city is the birthplace of former Venezuelan president Carlos Andrés Pérez. Natural limestone tunnels called La Cueva de los Milagros lie nearby.
