São Miguel das Missões
Brazil
The ruins of a 17th-century Spanish Jesuit mission, listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, are the reason most visitors come to this pocket-sized town in Rio Grande do Sul, southern Brazil. The mission was built among the Guarani people and stands as one of the best-preserved remnants of that colonial-era evangelisation effort in South America.
