Senones
Vosges · France
Tiny village in the Vosges mountains of northeastern France, Senones was the capital of the Principality of Salm-Salm — a territory of the Holy Roman Empire — until its annexation in 1793. The former Senones Abbey, founded around 640, anchors the village centre; its belltower dates from the 12th century, with most surviving abbey buildings from the 18th and 19th centuries. The journalist and Prix Cazes winner Pierre Humbourg was born here in 1901.
