Shabwah
Yemen
The ruins of Shabwa, once the royal capital of the ancient Kingdom of Hadhramaut in southern Arabia, lie in the north of Yemen's Shabwah Governorate. Known to Pliny the Elder and Strabo as Sabota, the city once held multiple temples and served as a seat of regional power before falling to the Himyarites under Shamir Yuhar'ish, after which Kindah and Madhij tribes settled there. The modern governorate takes its name from this ancient site.
