Shahrud, a city in Iran's Semnan province roughly midway between Tehran and Mashhad, is known as a centre of Iranian mysticism, housing the tombs of Sufi figures including Sheikh Abu al-Hasan Kharaqani, Bayazid Bastami, and the poet Ibn Yamin Farumadi.
