Solin

Solin, a town on the Adriatic coast just northeast of Split, sits on the site of ancient Salona — the Roman provincial capital of Dalmatia and birthplace of Emperor Diocletian. After Avar and Croat incursions in the 7th century destroyed Salona, its refugees resettled in Diocletian's palace, founding what became Split. Today Solin's archaeological remains and riverside parks along the Jadro draw visitors, and the wider region holds several UNESCO World Heritage sites.
