Suining
Sichuan Province · China
This large city in eastern Sichuan, Suining sits along the Fu River as it flows south through the Sichuan Basin, joined by several tributaries along the way. The city has a Wikivoyage entry suggesting some independent traveller infrastructure, and serves as a significant centre for Sichuan's textile and food industries. Historically known by the nickname "Dou Cheng" — said to derive from the shape of a fortress built here during the Five Dynasties period — it borders Chongqing municipality to the south.
