This little town in the Susa Valley west of Turin, at the foot of the Cottian Alps, with a concentration of Roman and medieval monuments that reflects its ancient role as capital of the Kingdom of the Cottii and a key crossing point on transalpine routes between Italy and France. The Via Francigena passed through here, and the town sits where the Cenischia meets the Dora Riparia, with mountain country rising on all sides and a café and restaurant scene substantial for its size.
