City in the Tandilia hills of Buenos Aires Province, Tandil draws visitors for its sierra scenery and a walkable centre with a dense café and restaurant scene. Founded in 1823 as Fuerte Independencia, it takes its current name from the Piedra Movediza, a moving stone that fell in 1912. Tourism peaks around Easter, when Catholic liturgical celebrations bring large crowds. The city is also the birthplace of former Argentine president Mauricio Macri.
