Known as Morocco's silver capital, Tiznit is a city in the Souss-Massa region founded in 1881 by Sultan Hassan I, with a long tradition of silver and bronze jewellery production. It sits in the northern coastal reaches of the Anti-Atlas mountains, close to the Atlantic. The name derives from a Berber word meaning "basket."
