Tultepec, just north of Mexico City in the State of Mexico, holds the title of Mexico's National Capital of Pyrotechnics — a designation it has carried since 1997, backed by holding the vast majority of the country's permits for fireworks production, sale, and transport. Each March, the town hosts the National Pyrotechnics Fair, drawing participants from across the industry. The name derives from Nahuatl, meaning "hill of the tule."
