A riverside town in Thailand's upper central region, Uthai Thani sits on the bank of the Sakae Krang River, a few kilometres upstream from where it meets the Chao Phraya, with the Sakae Krang hills rising close behind. The provincial capital is a few hours' drive north-west of Bangkok, making it a manageable base for exploring the river and surrounding terrain.
