Villahermosa
Centro · Mexico
Founded on 24 June 1564 by the Spanish colonist Diego de Quijada, Villahermosa is the capital of Mexico's Tabasco state and one of the country's older cities, with a walkable centre full of cafés and restaurants and the Grijalva River running through it. Known as the "Energy City of Mexico" for its role in the country's oil and gas industry, it also draws on a long history of natural resources — cacao, sugarcane, bananas, and hardwood — that shaped its development from colonial times onward.
