The Weltvogelpark Walsrode, the world's largest bird park, is the main draw to this town on the Lüneburg Heath in Lower Saxony. Since 1935 Walsrode has carried the honorary title Hermann-Löns-Stadt, after the Heath poet who made it his adopted home in the early 20th century. The former municipality of Bomlitz was merged into Walsrode in 2020.
