Yulin

Large city in northern Shaanxi where the Maowusu Desert meets the Loess Plateau, Yulin sits along several tributaries of the Yellow River and served as one of the nine key Ming-dynasty frontier garrisons, with the Ming Great Wall passing through its northern reaches. That border position made it a historic meeting point of nomadic and agricultural cultures. Today the city is one of China's major producing areas for coal, oil, natural gas, and salt.
