Yuquot
Yuquot 1 · Canada
Yuquot — also called Friendly Cove — on Nootka Island off British Columbia's west coast was the first place in British Columbia visited by Europeans, when James Cook arrived in 1778, and had long before that served as the summer home of Chief Maquinna and the Mowachaht/Muchalaht people. Declared a National Historic Site in 1923, the tiny settlement sits on Nootka Sound with mountain and ocean scenery on all sides, accessible today only by boat or floatplane.
