Zhouzhuang is a canal town in Jiangsu province whose architecture dates back more than 900 years, with around 60 original brick archways and 100 original courtyards surviving across its waterways. Described by the Smithsonian Magazine as the most famous and most commercialized ancient water town in China, it draws large crowds — particularly on weekends and holidays — and prices reflect its popularity. A short distance from Suzhou, it holds China's top AAAAA scenic area classification.
