Walled medieval town in the Swiss canton of Aargau, Zofingen has a well-preserved historic core with a medieval monastic settlement, a good spread of cafés and restaurants for its size, and scenic surroundings in the Wigger valley. First documented in 1231, the town passed through Habsburger and then Bernese hands before joining Aargau in 1803. Its position near the crossing of Switzerland's main north–south and east–west routes makes it an easy base for the wider region.
