Archidona
Málaga · Spain
Declared a Historic-Artistic Site in 1980 for its Baroque urban heritage, Archidona is a tiny Andalusian town in the foothills of the Sierra de Gracia, with scenic viewpoints across mountain country and a well-preserved historic centre. Its octagonal Plaza Ochavada, ringed by arcaded facades, is the centrepiece of the old town. The site has been settled since the Phoenicians, and in 756 the Emirate of Córdoba was proclaimed here. Natural lagoons and the Hoz de Marín gorge add ecological interest nearby.
