Astorga
León · Spain
Founded as the Roman military camp Asturica Augusta in the late 1st century BC, Astorga is a tiny city in León with a heritage-dense centre that includes a cathedral, the Episcopal Palace, and the remains of a Roman ergastula, all designated Cultural Heritage Sites. It sits on the Way of St. James and serves as a starting point for the Vía de la Plata. Its Holy Week is declared a Fiesta of National Tourist Interest, and a chocolate industry dating to the 19th century remains active alongside a real café and restaurant scene for a town its size.
