Town in northern Zamora, Castile and León, with a walkable centre full of cafés and restaurants and rivers running close to its edges. Set on a hill at the confluence of the Esla, Tera, and Órbigo river valleys, Benavente was repopulated and granted its founding charter by King Ferdinand II of León in 1167, when it was still known as Malgrat.
