Badacsonyors
Hungary
Badacsony mountain rises above the north shore of Lake Balaton in western Hungary, its volcanic basalt cliffs and slopes forming a geological landmark shaped some 4.5 million years ago. Vineyards cover the lower hillsides, making it the heart of the Badacsony wine region, while the summit opens onto panoramic views across the western basin of Lake Balaton. The mountain also has a literary connection: the Romantic poet Sándor Kisfaludy lived here and first met his wife Róza Szegedy, commemorated in a tiny exhibition on the mountain. A ferry links the shore to Fonyód on the opposite bank.
