Bagnone
Massa-Carrara · Italy
This little Tuscan village in the Lunigiana, Bagnone sits alongside the Bagnone torrent with views toward the high Apennine peaks and an unusual concentration of churches for its size — including San Niccolò, which preserves a 15th-century Madonna del Pianto, and the 18th-century San Leonardo. A castle adds to the historic fabric, and the village falls within the Tuscan-Emilian Apennine National Park. In 2009, a local lottery player won what was reported as Europe's largest-ever SuperEnalotto jackpot.
