Barletta
Barletta-Andria-Trani · Italy
The Colossus of Barletta — a bronze statue of a Roman emperor standing around four metres tall, the largest surviving statue from the late Roman Empire — anchors this Apulian city on the Adriatic coast. A Romanesque cathedral and a castle add to a heritage-dense centre with many historic churches and a lively café and restaurant scene. The city's territory also includes the ancient site of Cannae, where Hannibal defeated the Romans in 216 BC.
