Cyme
Izmir · Türkiye
The largest of the twelve ancient Aeolian cities along the Asia Minor coastline, Cyme — also known as Kyme or Phriconian Cyme — sits near Aliağa in Turkey's Izmir province, on the shore of Nemrut Bay. Founded in the Protogeometric period (around 1050–900 BC), the city was described by Strabo as the greatest settlement in Aeolis, and ancient sources credit its colonists with founding some thirty further cities, including Mytilene and Side.
