Eldorado

Founded on 29 September 1919 by German-born entrepreneur Adolfo Julius Schwelm on the eastern banks of the Upper Paraná River, Eldorado is a city in Misiones, Argentina, sitting roughly a hundred kilometres from Iguazú Falls. Schwelm named it after the legend of El Dorado and drew settlers from Germany, Switzerland, Poland, Denmark, England, and elsewhere. The Paraná waterfront supports sailing and sports fishing, including for the golden dorado, while the surrounding agricultural region produces yerba mate, oranges, and tung.
