Engelberg
Switzerland
A mountain resort in Central Switzerland, popular for both skiing and summer Alpine tourism, with a café and restaurant scene that punches above its size. The town traces its origins to the Benedictine Engelberg Abbey, founded in 1120, which remains a landmark of the area. Lucerne is the nearest major city. Engelberg is also a geographic curiosity — an exclave of canton Obwalden, entirely surrounded by the cantons of Bern, Nidwalden, and Uri.
