Fier
Albania
Founded officially in 1864 by Omer Pasha Vrioni II, Fier is a town in southwestern Albania on the Gjanica River, with a walkable centre of cafés and restaurants. Its main draw for visitors is proximity to Apollonia, an ancient Greek settlement founded in 588 BCE whose ruins lie a short distance away. The town sits between the Seman and Vjosë rivers, with the Mallakastra Mountains to the southeast and the Adriatic coast nearby.
