Friesach
Austria
Claimed as the oldest town in Carinthia, Friesach dates to at least 860 and retains a well-preserved medieval centre — including a town wall and a water-filled moat — that makes it one of the more photogenic historic settlements in the region. Several churches and listed buildings are within easy walking distance, and a modest but real café and restaurant scene serves the town's modest size.
