Frýdek-Místek
Czechia
A twin city on the Ostravice River in the Moravian-Silesian Region, Frýdek-Místek was formed in 1943 by merging two historically distinct towns — Frýdek in Czech Silesia and Místek in Moravia — whose well-preserved centres are each protected as urban monument zones. The Basilica of the Visitation of Our Lady, a national cultural monument and active pilgrimage site, is the most prominent landmark. The city sits in the foothills of the Beskydy mountains, close to the Slovak and Polish borders, and serves as a gateway to the wider Beskydy region.
