Gars am Kamp
Austria
Heritage-dense village on the Kamp river in Lower Austria's Waldviertel region, with several historic churches and a little but real café and restaurant scene for a place its size. During the Middle Ages it served as a seat of government under the Babenbergers, and in the 19th and 20th centuries it became a traditional summer retreat. The surrounding Kamptal valley offers scenic viewpoints and mountain country, and the wider region is ringed by UNESCO World Heritage sites.
