Kaiwaka
New Zealand
This small Northland village sits where the Kaiwaka River meets the Wairau River, draining toward the Kaipara Harbour, and offers a disproportionate number of cafés and restaurants for its size. Established in the 1850s during the kauri timber and gum trade, Kaiwaka grew as both road and rail north passed through it; State Highway 1 still runs through the centre today.
