La Victoria, in Venezuela's Aragua state, is defined by two battles that shaped the country's history: the 1814 Battle of La Victoria, where José Félix Ribas halted royalist forces with a largely untrained army, and the 1902 siege during the Liberating Revolution. Venezuela marks 12 February as Youth Day with a national ceremony held here. Founded in 1620 as Nuestra Señora de La Victoria, the city sits on the highway linking Caracas and Valencia, with roads branching toward Colonia Tovar and the central plains.
