A town in Apulia's Taranto province with a compact centre of cafés, restaurants, and historic churches, Massafra sits at the foot of the Murgia tarantina and falls within the Terra delle Gravine regional natural park. The surrounding area contains cave-dwelling settlements from the rupestrian civilisation, and the coast holds the Stornara nature reserve.
