Mont-de-Marsan
Landes · France
Founded in the Middle Ages at the confluence of three rivers on the Vézelay route of the Camino de Santiago, Mont-de-Marsan is the prefecture of the Landes department in southwestern France. The medieval street plan survives in the centre, alongside the Lacataye keep — now a sculpture museum — sections of the old ramparts, and former riverside port. The town sits at the southern edge of the largest forest in western Europe, with the Atlantic beaches of the Côte d'Argent and the Pyrenees both within easy reach.
