Palmi
Reggio Calabria · Italy
Palmi looks out over the Strait of Messina from the Tyrrhenian coast of Calabria, with beaches at Marina di Palmi and Lido di Palmi drawing visitors to what writers and poets have called the "terrace on the Strait." The town is also home to the Varia di Palmi, a festival inscribed on the UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage list in 2013, and the feast of Saint Roch with its procession of barbed wire. The House of Culture museum complex and the Archaeological Park of Tauriani — built on the ruins of ancient Tauriana, whose crypt is considered the oldest Catholic place of worship in Calabria — add further depth, as does the town's connection to composer Francesco Cilea and writer Leonida Repaci.
