Qantir, a village in Egypt's eastern Nile Delta, is believed to mark the site of Pi-Ramesses, the grand capital built by the 19th Dynasty pharaoh Ramesses II. The ancient city of Avaris, which Pi-Ramesses later absorbed, lies just south of the village. Both sites draw those interested in the deep history of ancient Egypt, placing Qantir at the centre of one of the Nile Delta's most significant archaeological zones.
