Rosais
Portugal
This little village on the western tip of São Jorge island in the Azores, Rosais sits above dramatic coastal cliffs, with the ruined Rosais Lighthouse at Ponta dos Rosais offering some of the island's most striking views. The surrounding terrain is largely plateau, and a short walk leads down to the Fajã de João Dias. The Sete Fontes Forest Park hosts a festival in honour of emigrants. The parish has existed since at least 1568 and was historically considered the island's breadbasket.
