Medieval village above the Gave d'Oloron river in south-western France, Sauveterre-de-Béarn faces the Pyrenees and preserves a substantial cluster of medieval remains: the church of Saint-André, the Monréal tower, the Pont de la Légende, and remnants of old fortifications. The village sits on a rocky escarpment at the crossroads of Soule and Basse-Navarre, and lies along the Via Lemovicensis, one of the main pilgrimage routes to Santiago de Compostela.
