Solola
Guatemala
A highland market town in Guatemala sitting above Lake Atitlán, where a large share of the Kaqchikel Maya population continues to wear traditional Mayan clothing in daily life. Founded in 1547, Sololá sits high in the mountains with the lake visible far below, and hosts a significant annual festival on 15 August — the Asunción de la Virgen María — which coincides with the Nim Akij Sololá, meaning "Great Day of Sololá" in Kaqchikel.
