A wine-producing town on the banks of the Râul Doamnei river in Argeș County, Muntenia, Ștefănești sits within one of Muntenia's best-known viticultural regions, where viticulture has been practiced since the medieval period. The settlement itself is documented from 1452, and the area was historically associated with influential Romanian families including the Brătianus and the Golescus. The town lies just east of Pitești, the county seat.
