Tepelenë
Albania
Sitting on the left bank of the Vjosa River where it meets the Drino, Tepelenë is a pocket-sized Albanian town in mountain country with scenic viewpoints and a ruined citadel rising some 300 metres above the water. The town was one of the headquarters of Ali Pasha of Yanina, born in a nearby village, and was visited by the British writer Edward Lear in 1847. A little central core offers cafés and restaurants for travellers passing through southern Albania.
