Várzea Grande
Várzea Grande · Brazil
Founded in 1867 as a military camp during the Paraguayan War, Várzea Grande sits on the right bank of the Rio Cuiabá, connected to the state capital by six bridges and now fully merged with it into a single urban area. The city holds Mato Grosso's main international airport, Marechal Rondon, and serves as a gateway toward the Amazon along the BR-163 and BR-364 highways. It developed into the state's largest industrial centre through manufacturing incentives in the 1960s–80s.
