This well-known balneological resort town in the Rhodope Mountains of Southern Bulgaria, Velingrad sits in the Chepino Valley with a café and restaurant scene concentrated in a compact centre. Formed in 1948 from the merger of three villages — Ladzhen, Kamenitsa, and Chepino — and named after the communist partisan Vela Peeva, it draws visitors primarily for its mineral spa waters.
